| BUS USERS UK and local bus company management were kept very busy at the
Bristol bus usersı surgery aboard a brand new First double-decker on Centre
Promenade, near Broad Quay, last Wednesday, with a steady flow of people
wanting to have their say throughout the day.
Often at these surgeries an overriding theme develops during the course of
the day, but this wasnıt the case in Bristol. Passengers made a whole range
of comments, with individual points about timetables, drivers, other
passengers, traffic congestion, bus design, the real-time system and
ticketing. And despite negative publicity surrounding Bristolıs bus services
not so long ago, there seemed to be general acceptance that services are now
improving.
People also seemed to accept that many of the problems stemmed from issues
outside the bus companiesı control such as illegal parking making traffic
congestion even worse. People of all ages stopped to make points about all
sorts of issues and an excellent cross-section of the clientele made use of
the surgery.
Julian Osborne, who ran the surgery for BUS USERS UK, said: "Only the
previous week First had been consulting users about the future of service
75, and First management, along with the management of the other bus
companies in Bristol and the Council, were once again genuinely interested
in listening to what passengers had to say to them at our surgery. This can
only be good news for bus users and bodes well for the future of bus
services in and around Bristol."
